Our Story.

While sports are critical. Education is vital.

Education is the key

The Ernie Camacho Educational Foundation (ECEF) was named after former Major League Baseball player and lifelong Salinas resident Ernesto Camacho. The mission of ECEF is to promote post-secondary education awareness and access as well as increase sports participation among low income and underprivileged youth and families in East Salinas. The ECEF is a non-profit organization exclusively dedicated for charitable and educational purposes in accordance with Section 501(C) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

The ECEF has simple goals in mind:

  • Help underprivileged youth further their education.

  • Provide higher education scholarship opportunities.

  • Provide financial support to achieve all our mission statement goals.

  • Provide a free annual athletic clinic that includes past Major League Baseball players.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

  • • 2022: Organized and provided a free Baseball Clinic for over 300 kids, in partnership with American Little League at Gene Robertson Park.

  • • 2021: Donated 24 backpacks ($150 value) to (1) 6th grade girl and (1) 6th grade boy from every Alisal Union School District school. (Total of 12 schools)

  • • 2021: EC Edu Foundation Board Members volunteered their time selling food and drinks at the 2021 Salinas Airshow.

  • • 2018: Provided Boy Scout registration and uniforms for youth at Jesse Sanchez Elementary School and Martin Luther King Elementary School located in Salinas, California.

  • • 2017: Provided six $500 dollar scholarships for local East-Salinas high school Seniors.

  • • 2017: Provided 2nd annual free “Legends for Youth” baseball clinic with past MLB players leading instruction.

  • • 2017: Provided free Little League Baseball Clinic at Sherwood Little League baseball field.

  • • 2017: Provided free Little League and Pony League baseball clinic at Salinas Sports Complex.

  • • 2016: Provided 1st Annual Free “Legends for Youth” baseball clinic with past MLB players leading instruction.

  • • 2015: Provided first-ever free baseball clinic at North Salinas High School for kids of all ages.
